MOAB AND ARCHES NATIONAL PARK

As we drove through Bluff on our way to Moab, we noticed with sadness that the Cow Creek Trading Post no longer serves the gourmet meals we have, in the past, driven out of our way to enjoy. The business is open as an antique shop and still sports a rusting Buick and flatbed truck in front, but you’ll no longer enjoy fine dining there.

The road north took us from Bluff to Blanding and Monticello, all founded by Mormon farmers at the direction of Brigham Young in the 19th century. Bluff suffered too many floods and did not prosper as did the areas to the north. Moab was a trading center and crossroads on the Colorado River. Though there was some farming in the area, mining became important and, lately, tourism.
Road Through Arches
We parked the RV at the OK RV Park south of town, turned on the A/C for the dogs and drove a few miles north of town to Arches NP for a brief overview drive-through so we could better plan our day in the park in the morning. We noticed a sign on one of the RVs at the OK RV Park that a couple staying there repaired window blinds. One of ours broke again—frayed string—and their services were reasonable and would be finished the next day. What a stroke of good fortune to find them at that time.
